Word

Beyond the futility of armed force, and ultimately more important, is the fact that war in our time inevitably results in the indiscriminate killing of large numbers of people. To put it more bluntly, war is terrorism. That is why a "war on terrorism" is a contradiction in terms. - Howard Zinn

If the US is a "great democracy", as its corporate media never ceases to tell us, let's give the government a chance to prove it.

Let's have a federally sponsored action, an opinion poll - of quality equal to or exceeding the best of the private polls - which, on questions of warfare, would require all three branches of government to honor the poll's findings.

If 50%+1 of voters wanted to go to war, after their country had been attacked, the war would start immediately.

If 50%+1 of voters wanted an end to a war in progress, the war would ended immediately.

It is quite likely that there has never been, in world history, a civilized nation where a majority of the population has lobbied their government to start a war.

It is always the leaders of governments that start the wars, against the will of the people, propagandizing the people to accept the necessity for the war.

It would be easy enough to prove any US senator or representative who opposed this federal poll idea an enemy of democracy, thus a traitor unfit to hold office, and so this miscreant would be duly relieved of his office.

That warfare is considered an acceptable practice is outrageous. It's stupid and evil, and no government should be permitted to impose warfare upon its people.

The world's people could do no better than to form a worldwide movement to abolish warfare. Such a program could be administered by the UN.
